Rain and heavy snow are accumulating in Connecticut Tuesday morning as a winter nor’easter pushes through the region.
The storm began Monday night and brought heavy rain that later turned into snow early Tuesday morning, leading to flight cancellations, school closures and public transportation delays in some parts of the state. The snow is expected to accumulate throughout the rest of Tuesday and taper off by Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Areas in Hartford and Windham County have received over 2 inches of rain as of Tuesday morning. Almost a foot of snow has fallen in Granby as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, while areas near the coast have just started to see measurable amounts.
The northwestern corner of the state is forecasted to see receive 8 to 12 inches of snow as of Tuesday morning, and parts of northern Litchfield County and northwestern Hartford County may see higher amounts.
Areas further south are expected to see far less snowfall, with 1-3 inches forecasted for the greater Hartford region and less than an inch for the areas closer to the coast.
The weather service has issued winter storm warnings for Litchfield, Tolland and Windham counties, and winter weather advisories for Hartford County, and northern portions of the state's southern counties, all of which are in effect until Wednesday morning.
