With snow, bitter cold, Tuesday will look and feel like January
Winter may be 40 days away, but there’s some snow and very cold temperatures heading our way on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service says rain will likely change to a brief period of snow across much of Connecticut Tuesday as a strong cold front crosses the region.
Snow accumulations of a coating to an 1 inch are expected. Some areas, especially the Northwest Hills, could see two or more inches.
Farther north there is a winter storm warning with more than a foot of snow in Vermont and upstate New York.
Rain will spread across Connecticut early Tuesday morning. By mid-morning temperatures will fall rapidly in the wake of cold front, allowing for a transition to snow or a rain/snow mix as precipitation exits.
The snow is expected to end by 2 p.m. Tuesday.
What follows are January-like temperatures.
Tuesday night temperatures will be 20 degrees below normal. Temperatures will range between 18 to 21 degrees along the shore, the teens across interior Connecticut and as low as 10 degrees in Litchfield County.
With winds up to 26 mph Tuesday, wind chills will be below zero and in the single numbers across Connecticut.
