Fields filled with flowers aren’t just something seen on Instagram or Pinterest — they’re right in Connecticut. This summer, several farms are hosting events at their fields that will upgrade your Instagram game.
From July 24 to Aug. 1, Buttonwood Farm in Griswold is hosting its 18th Annual Make-A-Wish Connecticut’s Sunflowers for Wishes fundraiser. More than 450,000 blooming sunflowers spanning 15 acres of farmland can be toured by a tractor pull, and after viewing the fields, stems can be cut for $2 per flower with all proceeds donated to Make-A-Wish Connecticut. At the farm’s ice cream stand, a sunflower-flavored ice cream will join the more than 50 flavors on the menu for the duration of the festival.
Location: 473 Shetucket Turnpike, Griswold
In Winsdor, Brown’s Harvest will be hosting its sunflower festival on Aug. 14 and 15, as well as Aug. 21 and 22. Guests can take hayrides through the fields, as well as listen to live music, shop local vendors and grab a bite to eat from a food truck.
Location: 1911 Poquonock Ave., Windsor
At East Canaan’s Freund’s Farm Market, guests can participate in a stroll and graze in July, August and September. First, visitors will walk around the farmland and learn about the property and its conservation practices. When the tour concludes, the market provides a “Taste of the Season” with fruits and vegetable hors d’Ouevres and dairy products from farmer-owned cooperative, Cabot Creamery. Tickets are $20 per person, and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to farm and land organizations.
