Menorah lightings around Connecticut for Hanukkah 2022

Hanukkah, also known as the “Festival of Lights” or “Feast of Dedication,” is a Jewish holiday that lasts for eight nights and falls on Dec. 18 through Dec. 26 this year. It celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

Many families of the Jewish faith will light a menorah in their home and some organizations or communities may have larger menorahs displayed in public places.

Menorahs are lit with a primary candle first and that candle is used to light an additional candle for each night. Candles are added to the menorah from right to left, but lit each night from starting with the left-most candle.

Fairfield

Chabad of Fairfield will light its 12-foot menorah on the Sherman Green on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. Preceding the lighting, the town of Fairfield will become "Chanukah Village" with downtown shops offering arts and crafts activities between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Litchfield

Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT will be hosting a public menorah lighting at the Chabad Jewish Center on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3:45 p.m.

New London

Chabad of Eastern CT is hosting a lighting of its Hanukkah menorah display on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m.

Stamford

Enjoy a cup of hot apple cider, donuts and latkes during the menorah lighting Sunday, Dec. 18 at Latham Park at 4:30 p.m.

West Haven

Stay warm while watching the menorah light up on the West Haven Green on Sunday, Dec. 18 during sundown.

Torrington

Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT will be hosting its "Menorah Parade and Lighting" at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m.

Sharon

Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT will be hosting a menorah parade and lighting at Sharon Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.

New Milford

Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT will be hosting a menorah parade and lighting at New Milford Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

Stratford

The town of Stratford is hosting its annual Menorah Lighting in celebration of Hanukkah at the Town Hall Green on Dec. 19.

Waterbury

Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT will hold four menorah lightings this year; at the corner of Columbia Boulevard and Randolph Street on Monday, Dec. 19 at 5:15 p.m., at Waterbury Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m., at St. Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. and at the Waterbury Green on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 6:00 p.m

Wolcott

Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT will be hosting a menorah lighting on Center Road at Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m.
