Emilia Murdock won the first place trophy at the New England Regional Championships held in Westborough, Mass. recently.

The 14-year-old figure skater successfully completed a triple flip, two triple salchow and two double axel to earn her a combined score of 136.56 points.

In Feb. Murdock suffered a fracture to her L5 in her lower back and she was away from training for nearly six months, returning at the end of June.

The regional championships are the first qualifying competition on the road to nationals, where the top four skaters progress to sectionals held in the middle of Nov.

Nationals will be held at the beginning of Jan. in San Jose, California.

The resident of Darien is in ninth grade and attends George Washington University online high school and trains full time with her coaches Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson in Boston.
