In what many were calling the "battle for straight teeth supremacy,” the boys of Blue Wave Orthodontics met the Osherow Live Wires for the 2017 AAA Championship of the Darien Little League, recently.

The game started with Blue Wave ace, Quinn Mullin taking the mound.

With two outs and speedy Taylor Dickinson on second base, Osherow All-Star, Lance Dibenedetto, came to the plate.

Dibenedetto hit a towering pop up that Mullin was able to settle under, and with Michael Kniffin sneaking in to cover second, they converted the double play.

In the bottom of the first, the Blue Wave bats came out red hot.

Leadoff hitter and resident base stealer Truman Hahn got things moving against Osherow starter, Dibenedetto.

With two on and nobody out Blue Wave power hitter, Russell Lancaster, broke the game open with a two-run double.

As the Blue Wave batters continued to get on base, left hander Gavin McCallum came up with another clutch hit to finish the scoring at 5-0 after one inning.

In the top of the second, Osherow’s cleanup hitter, Connor Kilroy hit a bomb to left center field, but the Live Wire bats were unable to bring him home.

In the bottom of the second Dibenedetto settled down to strike out the side and keep the game close.

With Blue Wave catcher, Ryan Gately providing a steady mitt and big target, Mullin was able to complete three innings of work allowing no runs on one hit and two walks.

In the third and fourth innings the Blue Wave hitters continued to stay sharp with key RBI by Teddy Briggs and Brady Harwick, helping the Blue Wave increase their lead to 9-2.

With the heart of the Osherows batters coming to the plate in the top of the sixth they showed a no-quit attitude that quickly loaded the bases.

With quality defensive plays by Cesar Tupac-Yupanqui Jr. and Steven Fiordaliso, it came down to two on and two out with the lead cut to 9-4.

With three full innings of relief, right handed reliever, Kniffin's 71st pitch sealed the deal for the Blue Wave's Championship dream and the celebration ensued.

Blue Wave Orthodontics expressed its thanks to Dr. Peter Maro for his support of the team as well as coming out and cheering it on to victory.
