The spring sports season is a little more than a week away, and this week’s Wave by the Numbers will put the focus on some spectacular statistics for the Darien boys and girls lacrosse teams.


The record of the Darien Blue Wave boys lacrosse team since the start of the 2014 season. That run includes 23-0 seasons in 2014, 2016 and 2017, as well as five FCIAC and four state championships.


The record of the Darien boys lacrosse team during an eight-day span from May 9 to May 14, 2015. Two of those losses were by one goal — 7-6 to New Canaan and 12-11 in OT to Greenwich — and the other was a 10-7 defeat at St. Anthony’s. The Wave finished the season with an eight-game win streak that included FCIAC and state titles.


The Darien boys lacrosse team’s winning streak before a 9-8 loss to the Ridgefield Tigers in last year’s CIAC Class L final. The Wave won the final eight games of 2015, went 23-0 in both 2016 and 17, and was 22-0 last spring before the loss in the final.


State championships during the last 22 years for the Darien boys lacrosse team. As good as the Wave has been in the postseason overall, they’ve been even more impressive once they’ve reached the finals. Darien has made 15 trips to the title game and lost just twice.


FCIAC boys lacrosse championships for the Darien Blue Wave. Darien’s first conference title was back in 1992, when the Wave defeated Wilton. Fifteen of their championships have come during the past 22 years.


Victories over rival New Canaan last spring, when the two teams were separated by just four goals. The Blue Wave won 9-7 during the regular season, 13-12 in the FCIAC final, and 8-7 in the CIAC Class L semifinals.


Consecutive FCIAC championships for the Darien girls lacrosse team. That dates back to the 2012 season. During that run, the Blue Wave has won the final three times over New Canaan (2013, 2015, 2016), twice against Wilton (2014, 2018),  and once each against Greenwich (2012) and Ridgefield (2017).


The record of the Darien girls lacrosse team during the past five seasons. That includes a 81-12-1 record during the regular season and a 40-1 record in the playoffs. Darien was 19-3 last year, including 16-1 against Connecticut opponents.


Ranking of both the Darien girls and boys lacrosse teams in the Nike/US Lacrosse High School Preseason Top 25 polls. Both are the top-ranked teams from Connecticut.


Games against non-FCIAC opponents for the Darien boys lacrosse team this spring. The Blue Wave opens with a home game against Yorktown, N.Y., at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 30. They’ll also play at Manhasset on April 13, and take part in a weekend series at St. Anthony’s, N.Y., taking on Seton Hall Prep on April 27 and host St. Anthony’s on April 28. Darien also plays at Brunswick on May 15.


Games against out-of-state opponents for the Darien girls lacrosse team this spring. The Wave will host Garden City on April 5, Radnor, Pa., on April 18, and Bishop Ireton, Va., on April 27. Darien then has road games at Eastport-South Manor on April 27, Manhasset on May 2, and Longmeadow, Mass., on May 13.
