Wave by the numbers: Darien's college and high school baseball diamond gems
The Darien baseball team is on a four-game winning streak and is unbeaten in FCIAC play as it begins its conference title defense this season.
In this week’s Wave by the Numbers, we’ll take a peek at some statistics for this year’s Darien baseball team, while also looking back at a few former Wave standouts who are now playing at the college level.
Record of the Darien baseball team through its first seven games. The defending FCIAC champs dropped their first two games, but then reeled off four straight wins, defeating Guilford, Bridgeport Central, Trumbull, and Greenwich, before falling to Brien McMahon on Wednesday.

The Blue Wave trailed 1-0 after four innings, but scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Hit allowed by Darien pitcher Henry Williams during a 10-0 shutout of the Greenwich Cardinals in Greenwich last Friday. Williams walked none and struck out 11 while picking up his first win of the season. Williams will be playing for Duke next year.
Games in eight days for the Blue Wave. Darien lost to Brien McMahon yesterday, Wednesday, and will host Danbury today, Thursday. Coming up next week on consecutive days are road games at Stamford, Trinity Catholic, and Wilton Monday through Wednesday.
Former Darien Blue Wave baseball players now in the college ranks.
Former Darien baseball players in the roster of the Sacred Heart University baseball team this season. Jake Frasca is a senior pitcher/infielder, and Justin Jordan is a freshman pitcher/outfielder.
Frasca’s batting average through 33 games. He’s 42-for-126 with 11 doubles, two home runs, 22 runs, and 11 RBIs. Jordan is hitting .238 with two doubles, a triple, and two home runs to go along with 11 RBIs and six stolen bases.
Earned run average of Darien’s Richard Brereton, a junior with the Emory College baseball team. He’s pitched 28.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs on 22 hits while walking nine and striking out 19.
Brereton’s batting average through 105 at bats. He has 40 hits, including five doubles, and has scored 21 runs while driving in 24. Emory is 18-12 this season
Earned run average of Darien’s Anthony DiMeglio, a senior with the Fordham University baseball team. DiMeglio has pitched 26.1 innings, allowing 28 hits and eight walks while striking out 33. Fordham, which also features Darien’s Casey Brown, a sophomore, on the roster, is 22-5.
Record of the Salve Regina baseball team, which features former Darien player Sean O’Malley as a freshman first baseman. O;Malley has appeared in 19 games and is hitting .259 with three doubles, one home run, nine runs, and 11 RBIs.
