Wave by the Numbers: A look at the Class L boys lacrosse tournament
An historical winning streak for the Darien boys lacrosse team came to a close recently and this week’s Wave by the Numbers takes a look at some of the stats from the Class L tournament.
The last week of the season included a dramatic one-goal semifinal win over rival New Canaan, and a heartbreaking loss to Ridgefield in the title tilt.

Consecutive victories for the Blue Wave before the loss to the Tigers. Darien’s incredible win streak started on May 19, 2015, and included undefeated seasons in 2016 and 2017, as well as 22 straight wins this spring.
One-goal games for the Blue Wave this season. They defeated Manhasset 7-6, St. Anthony’s 11-10, New Canaan 13-12 in the FCIAC final, Wilton 11-10 in the Class L quarters, and New Canaan again 8-7 in the Class L semis before the 9-8 loss to Ridgefield.

Score of the Blue Wave’s win over New Canaan in the Class L semifinals at Fairfield’s Rafferty Stadium on Wed., June 6, It was Darien’s third win over its rival this season, as the Wave had previously defeated the Rams 9-7 during the regular season, and 13-12 in the FCIAC final.
Time remaining when senior co-captain Logan McGovern scored what proved to be the game-winning goal against New Canaan in the state semifinals. Matt Gould and Charlie Olsen forced a turnover at the defensive end and the Wave turned it into a transition goal, completed when Hudson Pokorny sent the ball to McGovern near the left pipe.
