The opening day of the inaugural Geico High School Lacrosse Showcase resulted in a heartbreaking loss for the Darien boys lacrosse team.

The Seton Hall Prep Pirates rallied for the game’s final three goals and defeated the Blue Wave, 12-11 in overtime, Saturday at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, NY.

Darien led 11-9 with less than two minutes to play when the Pirates’ Kyle Stephenson scored a pair of goals to tie the score and send the game to overtime. Cullen Wolff scored the game-winning goal in OT.

Both teams are ranked in the top 20 of the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse Power Rankings, with Seton Hall Prep (14-0) at No. 10, and No. 20 Darien (8-2) at No. 20.

The Wave was led by Hudson Pokorny, who scored twice and had three assists, and goalie Andy Demopoulos, who made 14 saves against a tough Seton Hall Prep attack.

Michael Mincus added a hat trick, while Tommy Hellman had two goals and one assist, and Henri Pfeifle had two goals. Colin Ruppenstein and Jack Bogdan scored one goal apiece.

The Wave also had great defensive efforts from Tyler Strub, Sam Cragin, Pierce Hoyda, Connor Olson, Blake Cellar and Bruce Ferguson.

The Pirates had three goals apiece from Stephenson and Connell Kumar, and one goal and three assists from Ryan Kemp. Their comeback was fueled by Thomas Collucci's dominating performance at the faceoff X, as he went 20-for-27.

Darien had a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, but Seton Hall Prep tied it at 3-3 by the end of the frame. The Wave regained the lead at 6-5 by halftime, and led 10-8 heading to the fourth quarter before the Pirates rallied.
