Darien battered New Britain with 22 hits in a 27-4 first round state playoffs win at home on Tuesday.

It was over in the run-ruled fifth inning Class LL opener.

Cassidy Schiff went 5-for-6 to lead the hit parade. Schiff led with seven RBI.

Eleven seed Darien (17-4) plays No. 6 Southington (19-2) in the second round 4pm Wednesday away.

Southington beat 27 seed New Canaan 14-2 to advance.

Schiff hit two home runs and a double as part of her blasts at bat.

Sophia Barbour had the win on the mound.

She struck out five and gave up three hits.

Keilani Caruso had five hits as well.

Hailey King, Barbour, Kristen Picard and Caroline Krueger had two hits each.

Rosalie Pirone, Hannah Byrne, Stefani Gentile and Brittany Pierce added one hit apiece.

Picard and Krueger each batted in four runs, Caruso, Carlo and Gentile had two hits each.
