Darien quarterback Jack Joyce lit up back-to-back touchdown passes to Brian Minicus early on and it was quickly lights out in Wave Ball's 32-6 victory at Staples.

It’s a big statement, we came out and we got stuff done.

“I think he’s the most dynamic player on the field,” Joyce said. “Getting the ball to him, it’s too easy.”

The Wave defense cracked down all game and Joyce tacked on three more scoring tosses in the runaway win over the Wreckers on Friday night.

Darien improves to 5-0.

Staples goes to 3-2.

“It’s a big statement, we came out and we got stuff done,” Joyce said of what is Darien’s 30th straight victory. “We’re focused on this season. I personally don’t look at the 30-game win streak. I’m looking at this season and we’re 5-0. I just want to keep that up.”

Darien led 20-0 at the half.

Joyce passed 30-plus-yard strikes twice, finishing with a 35-yard loft to Alex Dehmel in the fourth quarter.

In between, he found Nick Green and Patrick Burke with tickets to the end zone.

Staples got on the board with a 67-yard touchdown pass with just under 6:00 to go. Ben Pearl took the toss from Daniel Thompson, broke tackle five steps into his sprint and tore down the left side unhindered.
