Killer career: LaRusso National Coach of the Year
Darien High volleyball coach Laurie LaRusso was recently named by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association the National Coach of the Year for the sport of volleyball.
Coach LaRusso has served as Blue Wave girls’ volleyball coach since 1982 and has amassed 23 FCIAC and 17 state championships during her tenure, finishing as the number one team in Connecticut nine times.
LaRusso has been Wave boys’ team coach since 2006.
In those years the boys’ team has won four FCIAC and three state championships.
In addition to her most recent recognition, LaRusso has also been recognized by the CT High School Coaches Association as Coach of the Year for the sport of boys’ volleyball this year as well as for the sport of girl’s volleyball in 1997.
LaRusso is also a member of several Halls of Fame, including; the Connecticut Volleyball Hall of Fame, the FCIAC Hall of Fame as well as the CT High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
