Alex Gu shot a 77 and finished in sixth place to lead the Darien boys golf team at the annual Hap Holahan Tournament Tuesday at Woodway Country Club.

Gu, a junior, shot 39 on the front and 38 on the back for his 77, which was the best score among the four Blue Wave golfers who qualified for the tournament. Gu and Ridgefield’s Brandon Tuccio finished tied for sixth.

Gu was one of five Darien golfers to qualify for the Holohan tournament.

Sophomore Thomas Ostberg was two strokes behind Gu, finishing ninth with a 79. He shot 38 on the front nine and 41 on the back.

Juniors Calvin Smith and Henry Sparkman shot 83s and tied for 18th place, while senior Blake Swiggett shot a 91 and finished 27.

The Holohan champion for 2019 was Greenwich freshman Tyler Donnellan, who shot a 2-over par 73. In fact, the Cardinals swept the top five spots, with Jackson Fretty and Tyler Sudell shooting 74s, and Billy Nail and Ben Ropiak shooting 75s.

The first non-Greenwich golfers were Gu and Tuccio with their 77s.
