Darien skiers Hart, Gulick make Team Connecticut; Wave stars on slopes
Darien Blue Wave skiers Devin Hart and Chase Gulick earned spots on Team Connecticut and will be competing in the Eastern Championships at Attitash Mountain Resort in New Hampshire next month.
Hart and Gulick earned their places on the elite team during the Shoot-Outs, a two-part race which features the top 30 boys and girls skiers in the start. From those 60 skiers, 24 are chosen — 12 each for the boys and girls teams.
During the GS Shoot-Outs, Hart and Gulick came out of the gate strong, both landing impressive first-place finishes in the opening race.
After the Slalom portion of the Shoot-Outs, Hart placed fifth for the girls, and Gulick second for the boys to secure their positions on the Team Connecticut roster.
The elite team will travel north to compete against 12 other states at the Eastern Regional High School Alpine Ski Championship hosted by Attitash Mountain Resort, Bartlett, N.H., on March 7-10.
Also for Darien, Lane Anderson and John Fallon are Team Connecticut alternates.
Overall, the Darien ski team is having a strong season competing in the Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League (CISL), which includes a total of 30 participating varsity and junior varsity squads from across the state.
The Darien girls started their season on Jan. 3 with a third-place finish and have steadily improved their standings by taking first place in races against 12 opponents in races on Jan. 24 and Feb. 7.
Last Wednesday, the Blue Wave placed third out of 11 teams in a meet which featured 156 racers.
Hart placed second in that latest meet after taking third place in three consecutive races.
Following closely was Lane Anderson who was sixth last Friday. Anderson finished in fifth place in the opening race, followed by two seventh-place finishes.
Samantha Lindell has had four strong finishes, taking seventh in the opener, 10th in the next two races, and then 15th last week.
Katie Lane, Morgan O’Neil, Adelaide Spain, Addison Davis and Ashley Anderson have also delivered some solid performances for Darien.
The Darien boys team garnered a first-place finish, along with two thirds and a fourth so far this season.
Gulick is leading the way for the Blue Wave with two firsts and two second-place finishes out of a field of 200 boys.
John Fallon followed with first-, fifth-, sixth- and 11th-place finishes.
Important team placement also included Jackson Bell with a fourth, two 13th places, and a 15th-place finish. Rounding out the scoring for the boys have been solid performances by Jack Lowitz, Alex Barlow, Connor Lajauine and Folke Bruno.
