The Darien Blue Wave's Mairead Class will continue her remarkable freshman season when she runs in the 84th Annual New England Interscholastic Cross Country Championships Saturday at Derryfield Park in Manchester, N.H.

The field features runners from Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The top 25 individual runners and the top six teams from those states have qualified.

Clas is one of 45 FCIAC runners who will compete at this weekend’s regional meet.

The boys’ race with begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the girls’ race at 12:30 p.m.

Clas earned a place on the All-FCIAC First Team by finishing sixth with a time of 14:58.44 over 4,000 meters at the conference championship meet in New Canaan’s Waveny Park on Oct. 18.

The Darien freshman was then the top runner from the FCIAC, finishing fifth overall at the CIAC Class L meet in Wickham Park on Oct. 26. Her time was 19:43 on the 5,000-meter course.

She was also 23rd at the State Open last Friday, finishing in 20:02.
