Darien holds at No. 2 in GameTimeCT boys ice hockey poll
The Darien Blue Wave is riding a three-game winning streak and held onto the No. 2 spot in the latest GameTimeCT Top 10 Boys Hockey Poll.
The Wave, which is 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the FCIAC, ranks fifth in the CIAC Div. I standings.
Darien won a dramatic 4-3 overtime game against Fairfield Prep at the Wonderland of Ice on Saturday, as Blake Swiggett scored to tie the game in the third period, and Jack Massey netted the winner with less than a minute to play in OT. It was the Wave’s second win over Prep this season, as they beat the Jesuits 2-1 on Dec. 19.
The Blue Wave will face the Westhill/Stamford co-op at Terry Conners Rink at 4 p.m., today, and will take on rival New Canaan next Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m. at the Darien Ice House.
Darien ranks second in the poll behind the Ridgefield Tigers (10-0), who are unbeaten with half of the regular season complete. Ridgefield, which earned all 14 first-place votes, had 140 points in the poll, while Darien had 119 and third-place Northwest Catholic (8-0-1) had 118.
The top five remained the same from last week, with Hamden (6-5-0) and Notre Dame-West Haven (5-5-1) taking the fourth and fifth spots.
The only other FCIAC team in the top 10 is the New Canaan Rams (6-5-0), who are No. 7 with 59 points. They dropped one spot from last week, as Fairfield Prep (3-6-0) moved up to No. 6.
