The Darien girls lacrosse team finished the season ranked No. 1 in the Connecticut Coaches Poll and was named the Team of the Year by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association, which released its postseason awards on Monday.

The Blue Wave had three players named All-Americans and led all teams with seven athletes receiving All-State first team selections.

Darien, which was 21-2 this season and claimed FCIAC and Class L championships, took the state’s No. 1 ranking wire-to-wire this spring. The Wave and No. 2 New Canaan took the top two spots in the first State Coaches Poll back in April and held those spots all season.

Darien was unbeaten against Connecticut opponents this season, going 17-0 in the state. The Wave was 4-2 against out-of-state teams, with each of the two losses coming in one-goal games.

The Wave defeated rival New Canaan three times. Darien won 12-6 over the Rams while winning its eight consecutive FCIAC championship, and 12-7 in the Class L final to reclaim the state championship after losing in the semifinals last year.

Senior co-captain and midfielder Nicole Humphrey, junior attack Ashley Humphrey, and junior midfielder Sarah Jaques all received CHSCA/US Lacrosse Connecticut All-America/All-State honors.

Senior co-captains Katie Elders, a midfielder-defender, Shea van den Broek on attack, and Charlotte Wittstock at midfield, were named to the Class L All-State first team alongside senior Eva Finna and junior Catie Duggan on defense, junior Maddie Jopyce at midfield, and freshman Shea Dolce at goalie.

Sophomore midfielder Nelle Kniffin was named to the All-State second team

Elders and Van den Broek also received Academic All-State honors.
