Darien boys lacrosse tops Warde; Brameier bids for 600th win Thursday vs. Wilton
The Darien boys lacrosse team rebounded from its first loss of the season by routing the Warde Mustangs, 23-7, Tuesday in Fairfield.
Hudson Pokorny and Michael Minicus had eight points apiece in the win, with Pokorny scored six goals and dished out two assists, and Minicus collected four goals and four assists.
Darien is now 5-1 this season.
The victory was the 599th for Darien head coach Jeff Brameier, who will bid for No. 600 when the Blue Wave takes on the Warriors in Wilton at 7 p.m., Thursday.
Brameier became Connecticut’s all-time winningest boys lacrosse coach two years ago when he passed New Canaan’s Howard Benedict, who had 551. Wilton’s legendary coach Guy Whitten, who coached from 1969 to 1995, is third with 410 wins.
The Wave rolled out to a 6-2 lead over Warde and continued to expand the gap throughout the game. Darien led 12-4 at halftime and 17-6 after three quarters before winning by 15.
Thirteen players scored for the Blue Wave.
In addition to the scoring from Pokorny and Minicus, who combined for 10 goals, Jackson Peters and Charlie Walsh had two apiece, and Tommy Hellman, Ryan Darby, Colin Ruppenstein, Cooper Hancock, Henri Pfeifle, Carter Flanagan, Matt Freeman and Matt Stein had one each.
