The Darien High School boys golf team raised $8,500 for the Folds of Honor Foundation at its 5th annual charity tournament on May 2 at the Country Club of Darien.

Founded in 2007, the Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service-members. To date, it has awarded more than 20,000 scholarships.

Darien co-captains Blake Swiggett and Matt Daileader, spearheaded this year’s event.

“Folds of Honor is an incredible organization that we have had the privilege of supporting as a team these past few years,” Daileader said. “Their work in providing scholarships to the children of fallen veterans helps show our gratitude towards their families, as our security is thanks to their sacrifice. Being able to go out and play the game we love among friends, family, and teammates while contributing to a cause much greater than ourselves makes it that much more special.”

“The Darien Boys Golf Team truly appreciates all the love and support we received from not only our friends and families, but from the community as a whole,” Swiggett said. “Our Folds of Honor Tournament was a huge success thanks to the generous contributions of local businesses and families, and we couldn’t have done it without them. The day was a special one that we will not soon forget.”

The golf team thanked Darien Sport Shop, Vavala’s, Devil’s Purse Brewing Company, Infinity Fitness, Kirby & Company, Mama Carmela’s Italian Deli, The Tavlarios Family, Brooks & Falotico Associates, Jimmy’s Southside Tavern and Greenbriar Equity Group for their support of the event.

“The Folds of Honor event has become a great Blue Wave Boys Golf Team tradition,” head coach Tom O’Donnell said. “We have a fun day of golf with family and friends while raising scholarship money for the children of deceased and/or disabled veterans. It is our way of saying thanks to those who provide the freedom and security we enjoy every day.

“We would like to thank the Country Club of Darien whose ongoing support of the event makes it possible for us to donate all monies raised to the Folds of Honor organization. The team would like to extend a special thanks to Alan Wronowski, PGA Hall of Fame member and Director of Golf Relations for the Folds of Honor organization, for being our guest speaker at the reception. His words were thoughtful and inspirational as he shared his passion for the organization he represents.”
