A crazy deflection put the Blue Wave in a hole, but Nathalie Bravo netted the equalizer on a long free kick as the Darien girls soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with the McMahon Senators on Thursday night in Norwalk.

Bravo launched her free kick from 35 yards out perfectly into the top of the net win the 66th minute for Darien’s one goal. The Wave had some chances during the final 14 minutes, but had to settle for the tie.

McMahon’s goal came in the 30th minute on a weird play after the Darien defense had cleared the zone.

Chloe Ortolano fired a shot from the 30-yard line and the ball deflected off the shoulder of her teammate, Peyton McNamara, who was ducking out of the way just five yards away. The ball was diverted to the left, and Wave goalie Olivia Maniscalco made a diving attempt, bit the angle was too great as the ball found the goal.

McMahon held the 1-0 advantage for 36 minutes before Bravo scored to tie the game.

Darien is now 3-1-1 and Brien McMahon 2-1-1 after the deadlock. The Wave will be in Danbury at 11 a.m., Saturday, before hosting Stamford next Tuesday and Wilton on Thursday.
