Darien's Richard Brereton earns place in Futures League All-Star baseball game
Darien’s Richard Brereton has followed a terrific baseball season with the Emory Eagles with a fantastic summer as he will play in the 2018 Futures Collegiate League All-Star game this week.
Brereton, a pitcher and infielder, has been playing for the Bristol Blues and sports a .276 batting average (35-for-127), with six doubles, one triple, one home run, 18 runs scored and 16 TRBIs at the plate.
He’s also 2-1 as a pitcher, with a 1.54 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 11.2 innings.
The All-Star game was played yesterday, Wednesday, at historic Holman Stadium in Nashua, N.H., the home of the Nashua Silver Knights.
Brereton, a rising junior at Emory, had a huge spring and earned spots on the All-University Athletic Association First Team, and the D3Baseball.com South Region Third Team.
A former FCIAC champion with the Blue Wave, Brereton led the Emory Eagles in hits (48), doubles (10), triples (3), runs scored (37), slugging percentage (.467), and stolen bases (13), while hitting .320 this spring.
On the mound, he was 5-4 with a 3.60 ERA and 66 K’s in 70 innings pitched.
Brereton was the only player to appear in all 38 games for the Eagles, who finished the season 20-18 overall and 11-5 in the UAA.
