Wave by the numbers: Football stars, the playoffs, and fleet feet

Some stunning football statistics, FCIAC playoffs on tap, and fleet feet in the conference cross country finals are the highlights of this week’s Wave by the numbers.

5 Touchdown catches for Darien wide receiver Matthew Minicus, who hooked up with quarterback Miles Drake for 11 catches and 177 yards in a 50-27 win over Ludlowe Friday night in Fairfield. Drake had 271 passing yards and also connected with Jake Wilson for one TD pass, giving him six in the game.

511 Rushing yards in the past three games for Blue Wave senior Tighe Cummiskey, an average of 170 per game. Cummiskey had 27 carries for 199 yards against Ludlowe, and scored his 12th touchdown of the season.

106 Points scored by Darien in its past two games. The Wave had eight touchdowns in a 56-36 victory over Wilton on Oct. 16 before finding the end zone seven times in the win against Ludlowe.

6-0 Records of No. 1 Darien and No. 2 St. Joseph, who will square off at 2 p.m., Saturday at St. Joseph in Trumbull. The Cadets defeated Ridgefield 17-14 on Friday.

14-1-0-0 Record of the Darien field hockey team, which suffered its first loss of the season in a 2-1 game with New Canaan last Friday. The Blue Wave will be the No. 2 seed and will host a quarterfinal game in the FCIAC tournament later this week.

14-1 Record of the Blue Wave volleyball team heading into the final week of the regular season. Darien is 11-1 in the FCIAC and has won four straight since a four-set loss to Greenwich on Oct. 26. The Wave currently lines up as the No. 2 seed in the FCAC playoffs, which begin on Tues., Nov. 2.

9-1-4 Record of the Darien boys soccer team heading into Wednesday’s regular-season finale against Warde, which is 9-2-3. The Blue Wave has clinched an FCIAC playoff berth, and can secure a quarterfinal home game with a win or a tie against Warde. The playoffs begin on Friday.

15:12 Time for senior Julianne Teitler, who led Darien with a seventh-place finish on the 4,000-meter course at the FCIAC girls cross country championship last Wednesday in New Canaan’s Waveny Park. Teitler and senior Mairead Clas, who was 11th in 15:33, both made the All-FCIAC first team.

6th Place in the FCIAC for the Darien girls cross country team. The Wave scored 139 points as a team, finishing five points behind fourth-place Trumbull and fifth-place Staples.

16:42 Time for senior Evan O’Rourke, who led the Blue Wave at the FCIAC boys cross country championship in Waveny Park. O’Rourke was 12th on the 5,000-meter course, earning All-FCIAC first team honors. Junior Nick Yoo (22nd) and Thomas Skelton (24th) made the second team.

8th Place in the FCIAC for the Darien boys cross country team. The Wave scored 167 points as a team, and placed three runners in the top 25.
