Minicus, Drake have big nights in No. 1 Darien’s win over Ludlowe

Darien quarterback Miles Drake and receiver Matt Minicus lit up Friday night with five touchdown connections as the Blue Wave football team defeated Ludlowe 50-27 at Taft Field in Fairfield.

Minicus was unstoppable with 11 receptions for 177 yards and the five scores, bringing his season totals to 441 receiving yards and 10 TDs.

Drake completed 21-of-33 passes for 271 yards and had six touchdowns, as he also hit Jake Wilson for one score. The performance pushed Drake over the 1,000-yard passing mark at 1,051 and he now has 17 passes with four interceptions.

Running back Tighe Cummiskey surpassed the century mark in rushing yards for the third consecutive game, carrying 27 times for 199 yards and a touchdown. In the last three games, the senior has 53 carries for 511 yards, a 9.65 yards per carry average.

The top-ranked Blue Wave (6-0) remained unbeaten heading into its showdown against No. 2 St. Joseph (6-0) at 2 p.m., Saturday, in Trumbull.

The Cadets edged Ridgefield 17-14 at Tiger Hollow on Friday.

Against Ludlowe, the Wave also had a big night from Wilson, who had six receptions for 82 yards and a TD. David Evanchick, Christian Alliegro and Cole Murphy had six tackles apiece, and Murphy added one sack.
