Herget, Darien football rally in final minute for victory over Wilton

Trevor Herget racked up 158 receiving yards, including 76 on the decisive drive with less than a minute to play as the Darien football team rallied for an 18-15 win over Wilton Friday at Fujitani Field.

Jake Wilson scored the game-winning touchdown on a one-yard run with eight seconds remaining.

Darien improved to 3-2, while Wilton suffered its first loss and is 5-1.

Neither offense was able to get much going through three quarters and the Warriors led 7-6 with six minutes remaining before Darien quarterback Simeon Doll connected for a 29-yard TD pass to Herget to give the Wave a 12-7 advantage with 5:36 left.

Wilton regained the lead on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Acosta-Rua with 1:17 remaining. A two-point run by Alexander Reyes made it 15-12.

On the final drive, Doll connected with Herget on three consecutive passes, moving the ball from the Darien 22-yard line to the Wilton two. Two plays later, Wilson capped the rally with the go-ahead score.

Herget finished with eight receptions for 158 yards and two TDs, Wilson had 20 rushes for 120 yards and a TD, and Doll was 18-of-27 passing for 219 yards and two touchdowns.
