Sarah Jaques scored four goals and Nicole Humphrey added a hat trick, but it was not enough as the Darien girls lacrosse team fell to Manhasset (NY), 12-11, on Thursday in Manhasset.

The Indians’ Emma LaPinto scored with 3:52 remaining in regulation and then netted the game-winner in OT.

The loss dropped Darien to 9-2 this season, with each of the two losses coming by one goal. Manhasset climbed to 11-1.

The Indians led 6-5 at halftime before Jaques and Humphrey scored early in the second half to put Darien ahead at 7-6. The Wave’s lead was 11-9 with less than 12 minutes to play, but Manhasset came back, eventually tying the game and then winning it in OT.

Ashley Humphrey had a goal and three assists for the Blue Wave, while Katie Elders, Charlotte Wittstock and Mason Maloney each had one goal. Goalie Shea Dolce collected 10 saves.

For Manhasset, LaPinto led the way with six goals.

Darien will attempt to rebound from that loss when it takes on rival New Canaan at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Dunning Field in New Canaan.

The showdown is a battle of the two top teams in the latests Coaches Top 10 poll, with Darien at No. 1, and New Canaan, the Class L champion, at No. 2
