Darien girls basketball tops Bassick in opener
The Darien girls’ basketball team kicked off the 2019-20 season with a double-digit win against Bassick on Monday night at DHS.
The Wave dominated the boards and used a strong second-half effort to earn the 55-37 victory.
Darien was led by double-double efforts from both Aerin Bowman (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Lindsay Dimonekas (14 points, 11 rebounds).
Maggie Ramsay provided a big spark off the bench, adding nine points and eight rebounds during the game’s closely-fought first half.
The Wave out rebounded Bassick, 60-25, for the game, led by Hassana Arbubakrr’s 14-rebound effort.
Overall, it was a solid team effort with contributions from Gwen Dolce (6 points), Kelly Richter (3 points) and two points each from Shea Dolce, Jillian Vaught, and Arbubakrr.
The Wave is finishing the opening week with a pair of road contests, playing at Bethel yesterday, Wednesday, and at St. Joseph in the first official FCIAC game of the season on Friday.
