After an opening week loss to St. Joseph, the Darien football team made quick work of Bridgeport Central, scoring 33 points in the first quarter on the way to a 47-0 shutout Saturday in Darien.

The Blue Wave (1-1) will face a big challenge this weekend when they host Maloney (2-0) at 7, Friday, at DHS.

The game is a match-up of two defending state champions and two teams that were 12-1 last year.

Darien won Class LL last season, beating Fairfield Prep 42-7 in the final, while Maloney defeated Windsor 35-21 to win Class L. With the CIAC’s expansion to six classes this year, both teams are now in Class L.

Against Central, Darien Quarterback Simeon Doll threw touchdown passes to four different players, with Brady Pokorny (48 yards), Isaac McMullin (40), Briggs McGuckin (14) and Trevor Herget (4) all finding the end zone.

Doll was 6-of-7 passing for 133 yards.

Jake Wilson led the ground game, rushing 12 times for 158 yards and three TDs. Clifton Shelton had 13 carries for 85 yards.

On defense, Jack Barber had six tackles and Stephen Carre had four tackles and a sack.
