Westport home with automation system listed as ‘coming soon’ for $4.2M

The home on 121 Imperial Avenue in Westport is “a home ahead of its time,” according to listing agent for The Riverside Realty Group Judi Lake. Not because its design is especially futuristic in appearance, but because of the hidden modern conveniences it has throughout the house.

Listed for $4.2 million as "coming soon," the six-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom home has more than 5,400 square feet of living space spread out over four levels. Throughout its multiple levels, the 2014-built home has a full home automation and security system to control things like heat, lights and home alarm systems from afar; it also has power outlets in most of the closets throughout the home that Lake said anticipates the need to power rechargeable vacuums while in storage. The design is also notable for featuring a glass-enclosed main staircase and bifold doors to open the living space to the outdoors.

With livng space spread out over four levels, Lake said it came in handy during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the sellers mentioned they had “somebody on each level” during periods of remote work and school.

The main level includes a large family area, Lake said, as well as a room converted to an office. In the home’s lowest level, there’s a media room that could also be used as a playroom, as well as a small craft room, a gym, a bedroom and a bathroom. The third level contains five bedrooms and four bathrooms, Lake said, but one of the bedrooms was converted into a study room for the sellers’ children to do homework and attend remote classes during the pandemic. Lake said he home’s highest level — which is currently soundproofed and finished as a music room — offers flexibility for another office or family room.

In Lake’s experience, having multiple, flexible spaces inside a home is something still in demand among buyers.

“I just had clients moving from Brooklyn to Weston, and they’re both lawyers who are hybrid now, so in addition to their office, they wanted a space for their kids to do homework,” she said. “Flexibility of space is so much more in-demand now than it ever was, more than a gym or a playroom or things like that.”

Other amenities part of the home include a patio and a gunite saltwater pool on its half-acre lot.

Currently listed as “coming soon,” Lake said the Imperial Avenue home will be open to brokers on Thursday and start showings for the public on Friday. Listing it ahead of showings as an up-and-coming listing not only builds up demand, according to Lake, it also helps house hunters plan.

“Houses are trading so quickly over the weekend that it really gives people time to prepare,” she said. “Some properties you only get to see for 15 minutes, so you want to be able to plan your weekend to get an appointment and get down there, and very often, the ‘coming soon’ allows you to pre-plan the day.”

As the home is set to hit the market this weekend, Lake said the home’s next buyers take the form of locals and transplants alike.

"It’s walkable to town, it’s walkable to the train, so people that are coming from Manhattan that still have that, 'I need to be able to walk to where I’m going to eat,'" she said. “But it’s also ideal for people that are already in town that know the area…it’s the people that are sort of really not looking but if they saw it, would be like, ‘Oh my god, what an opportunity.’”
