On the Market: Camp Avenue home is a Darien deal
DARIEN — Several real estate and neighborhood websites list conflicting amounts as the median home cost of a house in Darien. One web page puts the number at $1,352,500. Another uses a figure of $1,588,205. Two other websites suggest the amount falls somewhere between those two.
Regardless of which is correct, that would still make the gray split-level house at 74 Camp Ave. one of the best values in town at $899,900. And while some people think split-levels are outdated, there is something to be said for the privacy that they afford. Its family members can remain in close range to each other within the smaller square footage and yet the configuration of the floors creates pockets of privacy.
This house has 3,266 square feet of living space on four levels. The walk-out lower level has the family room in which there are wall-to-wall carpeting, a wall of elongated red bricks that contains a wood-burning fireplace, laundry room, and a door to the level backyard and a wood deck. A babbling brook is found at the far end of the property which, at almost one acre, provides limitless opportunities for outdoor recreation and enjoyment.
The main living level contains the formal living and dining rooms, which are open to each other, and the kitchen. In the living room there is a wood-burning fireplace. The dining room has chair railing, bay windows, and a built-in window seat. Kitchen features include white cabinetry, a white ceramic tile floor with smaller black tile inserts, double porcelain sinks, and two counter areas - one is topped with granite and the other with butcher block. This eat-in kitchen has a door to the side yard.
On the first of the bedroom levels there are three bedrooms. One is en suite and the others, one of which is currently used as an office, access a hall bath. On the next level there is the master bedroom suite. It has a large sitting room and full bath. This bedroom is in the finished walk-up attic, which also provides ample storage. The sitting room is spacious enough to be used as a fifth bedroom if necessary.
The house is hidden from the street. It sits on a 0.92-acre level property behind a scrim of trees. It was built in 1956 and it has aluminum vinyl siding, which makes it low in maintenance. This house is convenient to the Talmadge Hill Metro North train station in neighboring New Canaan and it is not far from the Merritt Parkway to the north and I-95 to the south.
