STAMFORD — A 50-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks Monday night in an incident on the city’s West Side, police said. The shooting happened around 8:40 p.m. near 6 Stephens St., which is near the intersection of Smith Street, Lt. Tom Scanlon said. The gunshot wound was non-life-threatening, Scanlon said. Police did not immediately say where the victim is from. Officers responded to the scene Monday night and found multiple shell casings and a vehicle that had been struck multiple times in the gunfire, he said. The street corner where the shooting occurred is a known as a gathering spot for locals, Scanlon said, and investigators believe there were “multiple witnesses” to the shooting incident. The Monday incident marked Stamford’s second shooting in less than three days, and the fourth in less than a month, police said. On Saturday night, two people were injured in a shooting outside a South End housing complex. That shooting came days after a shootout in a drug deal turned attempted robbery and a suspected accidental shooting, and nearly a month after a 19-year-old Stamford High School graduate was killed in a shooting outside RPM Raceway. Police are asking anyone with information regarding Monday’s shooting to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 203-977-4417.
