DARIEN — A stretch of highway through town was closed Wednesday after a two-vehicle collision, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The crash was reported shortly before noon on Interstate 95’s northbound lanes, shutting down the highway between exits 12 and 13.

The DOT initially reported the highway was seeing congested traffic for more than three miles, between exits 9 and 13.

By around 12:35 p.m., the DOT said only the left and center lanes remained closed, with traffic backed up for more than five miles between exits 8 and 13. By around 1 p.m., the highway’s lanes had reopened to drivers. Some residual delays briefly remained in the area.

There was no immediate word on possible injuries.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
