Drunk driving cited in crash that ‘demolished’ Stamford utility pole
STAMFORD—A city man who police say was driving drunk crashed into a utility pole Monday afternoon. The crash closed Westover Road until past midnight Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said the accident happened near the intersection of Merriebrook Lane at about 3:30 p.m.
The accident “demolished” a utility pole, according to the police report.
Peter Quiones, of Morgan Street, was uninjured but failed some of the sobriety tests at the scene of the crash, Shawinsky said. Once at police headquarters, he refused to take a Breathalyzer test, police said. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, driving with a suspended license, failure to maintain the proper lane and improper passing.
Eversource, Frontier cable company and the water company had to respond to the accident and make repairs caused by the crash, police said.
Quiones was freed after signing a written promise to appear in court.
