NEW MILFORD -- A Summit Drive man stopped by police for an unregistered car was subsequently arrested on multiple charges.

Matthieu Loizeau, 26, was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

Police said Loizeau was stopped Friday when they discovered there was no record his vehicle was registered. As the officer talked to Loizeau, he detected the smell of marijuana.

Loizeau admitted to smoking marijuana and handed the officer a small amount, police said. A search of the car found an additional bag of marijuana.

Loizeau is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bantam on Jan. 4.
