Obituary: Jessica Ellen Bloch

Jessica Ellen Bloch of Aspen, Colo., and Wilton passed away suddenly of unknown causes on Monday, Dec. 1. She was the beloved daughter of Jane Diehl Powell of Wilton and of Andrew Lawrence Bloch of New Rochelle, N.Y.

Jessica was born on July 22, 1986. She attended Wilton Schools, Landmark Academy and graduated from Darien High School, Class of 2004. In 2008 Jessica graduated from Roger Williams University as an art history major. That same year, Jessica moved to Aspen with her close friend from Darien High School, Kim Hogan.

Jessica continued her education at Rocky Mountain College in Colorado, and in 2011, she graduated, and passed her nursing boards, becoming a registered nurse. Jessica worked at Aspen Valley Hospital as a medical/surgical nurse, followed by work at Valley View Hospital, in Glenwood Springs as an endoscopy procedure nurse. In addition, she was a pediatric private nurse for twin girls, one of whom had intense medical needs.

Jessica chose to live in Colorado because of her love for the outdoors. She loved hiking, camping, horseback riding, and summer outdoor concerts with her friends in Aspen. She was a marksman with a pistol. She loved to decorate her homes and surround herself with beauty. She was a lover of children and animals, over the years had many pets. At age 15, Jessica became an EMT at Post 53 in Darien. She was rider of the year her first year there. Jessica held a summer intern position with the Salvation Army in New York City while taking classes at New York University. She had a passion for healing the sick and loved to help others. Jessica had a humanitarian heart, was non-judgmental, and was looking forward to serving God and man. Her immediate goal was to work as a missionary Nurse wherever there was a need.

Jessica was a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, and cousin. Her family remembers her as the happiest baby. She was treasured by all and would light up a room with her beauty and contagious laughter. She shined her light on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her mother, Jane Diehl Powell; her father, Andrew Lawrence Bloch; her grandparents, Cynthia and Rick Diehl of Wilton; her precious siblings, Caroline Powell and Elizabeth Powell of New Canaan, James Bloch, Hannah Bloch, and Olivia Bloch of New Rochelle, N.Y.; her aunts and uncles, Carole Diehl Manceau and Philippe Manceau of Le Puy St. Bonnet, France, Nancy Diehl of Wilton, Dr. Leslie Bloch Gordon, and John Gordon of Tucson, Ariz., John and Betsy Bloch of Guadalupita, N.M.; and her stepmother, Susan Bloch of New Rochelle; her cousins, Amelia and Clara Manceau of Le Puy St. Bonnet, France, Lily and Nora Walsh of Wilton, Elliot and Tara Bloch of Las Vegas, Nev., Aaron and Amanda Weiss of Denver, Colo., and Nina Bloch of Atlanta, Ga.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but we know she is in the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There will be visiting hours at the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 Wall St., Norwalk, on Friday, Dec. 5, 4-8. A celebration of Jessica’s life will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1, at the Community Baptist Church, 105 East Ave., Norwalk. Burial will be in Willowbrook Cemetery, Main Street, Westport.
