One of Darien's own continues to leave her mark in the pool--by hardly leaving a trace at all.

With near-flawless technique, 13-year-old Elizabeth Fitzpatrick walked away from the Junior Olympic Summer Zone A Championship with three gold medals.

There were 193 competitors and 396 entries at the massive meet, and no one matched Fitzpatrick's feat.

USA Diving held its Junior Olympic Summer Zone A Championship meet at the University of Pittsburgh from June 30 to July 2.

Darien divers were able to put Whirlwind Diving into a second-place overall finish, outperforming 22 teams, from Michigan to Boston. Darien's Elizabeth

Fitzpatrick earned the high-point award for the meet as well, and she qualified -- as did the top six divers in each event -- to compete in Tucson, Ariz., at the prestigious 2010 USA Diving Speedo National Championship, with the next six divers competing in the Age Group National Championship.

In addition to Fitzpatrick, four other Darien divers qualified for the Speedo National Championship in Tucson. Darien's Tim Luz, 11, earned fourth place in 1-meter and 3-meter events, while Lee Christensen, 13, earned fourth place on all three events: platform, 1-meter, and 3-meter.

Alex Leinroth captured silver in the women's 16-18 platform event and placed sixth in the 3-meter event. Jake Bowtell, of Marlins Diving, won silver in the men's 14-15 1-meter and bronze in the 3-meter event.

Other Darien divers who competed in Pittsburgh at their first Zone competition include Sam Scribano and Kyle O'Donnell. Scribano qualified for Age Group National Championship.

Whirlwind Diving is coached by Joe Somma and Sergey Meshcherskiy at the New Canaan YMCA.
