To the Editor:

I am disappointed in the Darien Times' decision to run the letter from Michael Mezquida, which does not seem consistent with the paper's published guidelines ( not to publish letters that are "libelous or in poor taste."
Regardless of whether or not you agree with the statement that the "looks" of smarter girls "in most cases are consistent with what one would find in a live bait shop," there is no question that the statement itself is in poor taste. If the Darien Times' guidelines do not apply to a statement such as that, I'm not sure what statement they could ever apply to.
