To the Editor:

As a longtime resident of Darien and a lifelong resident of Connecticut, I have seen many changes in the state we call home. While some are good, many are not, and I feel strongly that we need to put our state back on track.

Our Republican leadership in town has done a great job keeping our taxes under control while being fiscally responsible; allowing schools to be open during the pandemic; maintaining zoning laws that protect our environment and property values while incenting developers to build affordable housing.

My fear is that the Democratic Party-controlled state legislature will change things for the worse. Our small suburban town will be urbanized; our taxes hiked, and our schools regionalized and quality of education is compromised.

I urge all residents of Darien to read up on various bills that Democratic lawmakers in Hartford have proposed this legislative season. Thank goodness for Republican leaders like Terrie Wood and Jayme Stevenson who are fighting for Darien, and I thank them for what I fear will be an uphill battle.
