To the Editor:

When I learned of Susan Shultz’s departure from the Darien Times, I wanted to express my thanks and gratitude for the work she’s done on behalf of my family and the community.

Under her leadership the paper has grown to promote education and awareness on an myriad of issues including ones that had been considered too taboo to have an open conversation about.

I became friends with Susan when she reached out to me asking if I would share our family’s story about the devastating opioid epidemic that took the life of our son, William.

She was both professional and very kind to me and her article on our family’s loss, a tragedy that so many other families have also experienced, was one of the most impactful articles that I have ever read in the Darien Times.

My family and I hold Susan Shultz in the highest regard. It’s thanks to journalists like her that stories are heard and positive changes can be made.
