To the Editor:

I encourage you to join the next “Darien Talks Housing” event, a series that provides information about housing and zoning proposals that affect the Darien community. The most recent presentation, which featured State Senator Saud Anwar, was extremely informative, addressing some of the voiced concerns relating to proposed Connecticut 2021 zoning legislation.

I think many in our Town struggle with the balancing act of advancing public policy goals and initiatives and preserving our local real estate market. There should be no shame in feeling the tension - many of us moved to Darien because of what our special community provides, but, equally so, the price of admission was not a sacrifice of our humanity.

We can all benefit from having a place where citizens can voice their concerns and hear our representatives’ answers. Undoubtedly, there are politicians across the political spectrum that do not want us having these conversations. I suggest that this should be a dialectic forum where we can best consider these proposals.

So, if you are a proponent of, or opposed to, the housing and zoning proposals that have been floated about Connecticut and Darien, I ask you to join us. I, for one, should like to hear your voice, as that will help me to continue to shape my own views on these very important issues.
