Have you ever gone to a shelter to adopt a pet and were disappointed not to find an animal that you truly loved? Perhaps you had your heart set on getting a long-haired cat. Or maybe you always wanted a beagle, but neither were available.

Well now you will have no excuse because Pet Super Adoption, hosted by Best Friends Animal Society, is coming to the Westchester County Center in White Plains Friday, April 26, through Sunday, April 28. Hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be featured at this free event.

Pup Jack Rescue, which is based in Darien, will be on hand featuring various breeds of dogs, although their speciality is German shepherds.

Adoption fees start at $50 for cats and $85 for dogs. All animals come spayed/neutered and with updated vaccinations.

The free event runs from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday; from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Best Friends Animal Society is a wonderful organization based in Utah that has organized these super adoptions around the country. The organization brings together local animal shelters at one great event that attracts hundreds of people looking for the perfect pet. If you can't find your new BFF here, you will never find him.

Fact box

I have five rescue dogs and they bring me so much joy. There is nothing like coming home after a long day at work to an affectionate dog that is overjoyed to see you. Pets are such a comfort. Research has shown that owning a pet can even lower your blood pressure. And there is no better exercise than taking your dog on a long walk.

Remember to never buy an animal from a pet shop. Pet shops often get their dogs from puppy mills. Why spend hundreds of dollars for a pet shop animal when hundreds of dogs and cats are looking for a home at Pet Super Adoption?

So hop in the car and head for the Westchester County Center in White Plains for what I know will be a festive and extraordinary event. For additional information visit www.superadoption.org.
