Bill lived in Darien for fifty-three years and was active in local government, serving as the town's Treasurer for a number of years after his retirement from Wall Street.  He was a long-time member of the Tokeneke Club and played tennis there regularly until three years ago.  He was also the past President of the Darien Red Cross as well as very active in a number of other organizations including the Darien Senior Mens Singing Group, the Darien Republican Club, the Darien Historical Society, the Harvard Club of New York City, the Bond Club of New York, the New York Board of the S.I.A., India House, the Foreign Policy Association, the Pilgrims Society of the United States, and Holland Lodge 48 (Masonic Order).
