From stuffy noses to scraped knees, Sheila Morrison Allen knew how to treat almost every malady in the book.

The well-being of others was important to Sheila, who spent more than 40 years nursing patients and a lifetime caring for her loved ones.

Sheila, 71, died of natural causes October 13, 2018, at her residence in Woodstock, Ga.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, having been born the oldest of five in 1947 to Darien residents Edward and Doris Morrison. Sheila graduated from Darien High School in 1965 before attending St. Francis Hospital's School of Nursing in Hartford, Conn. She graduated from there in 1969.

After her marriage that same year, Sheila left New England and raised her family while living across the country. No matter where she was — Texas, Illinois, Georgia, New York or even Germany — Sheila always felt most at home in Darien. Following her divorce in 1986, she and her three sons moved back to Darien, where all four were parishioners of St. Johns Roman Catholic Church. She worked as a Resident Nurse at Stamford Hospital for more than 15 years, while raising her sons and caring for her aging mother.

After her sons left the house and the passing of her mother, Sheila relocated to Virginia where she worked at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and became a parishioner at St. Marks Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, VA.

Sheila loved many things, among them fashion. She wore her “Sunday finest” every day of the week. Once a grandmother, she spent time teaching her granddaughters how to wear makeup and jewelry.

Sheila remained on good terms with her ex-husband Andrew B. Allen. She is survived by him and her siblings Bill Morrison, Jim Morrison, Bob Morrison, and Judy Garrabrant; her sons Mark Allen and Jason Allen; her six grandchildren Emily, Mackenzie, Lily, Joseph, Daniel, and McKenna; her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her eldest son, Andrew.

Her loving family and friends will celebrate Sheila’s life this Saturday, October 20th, with a mass at St Maurice’s Catholic Church in Stamford at 11:00 am and interment immediately following at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila’s name may be made to the Knights of Columbus #10515, P.O. Box 65530, Virginia Beach, VA 23467.
