Obituary: Shealeagh Inniss Harmeier
Shealeagh Inniss Harmeier of Darien died peacefully on Friday, June 29, after a brief illness, with family members at her side.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; her daughters, Nancy of Greenwich, Janice and her son-in-law Christopher Day, also of Greenwich, and three grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, David Inniss, of Barbados.
She was born in Barbados in 1925. After working for the Royal Bank of Canada in Bridgetown, Barbados, she was recruited to work at the Coolidge Air Force Base in Antigua during World War II. She worked there until 1948, when she emigrated to Philadelphia, Pa., to work in the public relations department of Sun Oil Company.
She and her husband moved to Darien in 1966. Later, she resumed work part-time for Management Decision Systems in Darien until her retirement in 1994.
Tennis was a life-long passion. She grew up playing on her family’s grass tennis court. Later, she was captain of the Ladies Double’s A Team at the Middlesex Club. She also played several times a week at the King’s Highway Tennis Club. Most recently, she managed the TLC’s, a senior ladies tennis club that played outdoor tennis in over 15 area clubs.
Following retirement, she and her husband spent winters in Barbados where she played tennis at the Barbados Yacht Club.
