Obituary: Samuel G. Taylor, 84, longtime Darien resident, U.S. Navy vet, engineer, naval architect
Samuel G. Taylor, a Darien resident since 1954 who owned a consulting business, died Thursday, March 22, at Stamford Hospital.
Born in 1928 in New York City, he was the son of the late Samuel G. Taylor and Louise Townsend Taylor Frodel. He grew up in New York City and Old Greenwich.
Mr. Taylor graduated from George Washington University and later received advanced degrees in engineering from the University of Connecticut. Before attending college, he served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Taylor worked in the engineering field as a mechanical engineer, naval architect and marine engineer and structural engineer for several local companies before establishing his own consulting business. He had lifelong passions for carpentry and sailing.
Mr. Taylor was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Joan K. Taylor. He is survived by three sons, Eric G. Taylor, Christopher K. Taylor and Jeffrey R. Taylor; and one daughter, Lisa T. Taylor; and three grandchildren.
Calling hours are Thursday, March 29, from 9-11, at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A funeral service will be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 5 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan on Thursday, March 29, at 11:30. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.
