Patricia Mary Horton passed peacefully in the loving arms and in the home of her daughter, on New Year's Eve morning, Dec. 31, 2014 at the age of 91.

Mrs. Horton was born to Sidney and Mary Leahy Jennings on March 13, 1923 in New York City. Mrs. Horton’s love for family always came first, her family said, expressed through her generous heart, gentle soul, positive spirit, keen sense of humor and her constant desire to give. Whether she was making lunch for the kids in the neighborhood or preparing delicious meals for visiting family and friends, there was no end to her generosity.  Her loving smile and easy nature always made her a comfort to those around her, her family said.  Her love of sports as a young girl stayed with her as she enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting events.  She was also an avid walker, reader, card player and lover of animals.

Mrs. Horton was a resident of Greenwich and Tequesta, Florida for many years before moving to Darien.  She worked as a bookkeeper for Aerotech in Stamford and the family business in Jupiter, Florida.  In addition, Mrs. Horton was a faithful volunteer for the Martin County Florida School District, helping disabled children.  She graduated from Port Chester High School and was an active supporter of each local church she attended as she and her family moved between the New York area, Georgia, Florida and Greenwich.

Mrs. Horton is joined in heaven by her husband William F. Horton with whom she was devoted, and her beloved son Barry Horton.

Mrs. Horton leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her daughter Tracy Townsend, son- in- law Steve Townsend and granddaughters Morgan and Allison Townsend of Darien, in addition to her nieces Judy Zelver and Jill Johnson, both of California, and nephews Dennis Johnson of New York, Billy and Brian Jennings of Texas and Fred Smithauser of Milford.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas More Church in Darien and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 12:30 p.m. at the Talmadge Hill Community Church, 870 Hollow Tree Ridge Road in Darien with a reception to follow. All are welcome.  In lieu of flowers a donation to The Community Fund of Darien would be greatly appreciated at communityfunddarien.org.
