Nils Benson was born in Rye, New York on October 12, 1923. He was the son of the late Emma and Nils Benson of Rye, NY. He was the brother of the late Karl Benson and sisters Anna Austin and Bertha Bixby.

He graduated from Rye High School and attended Syracuse University. He served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific in World War II.

He was President of the Penn Elastic Company in New York City, a subsidiary of Courtaulds of Great Britain. Nils was a former President of the Coveleigh Club in Rye, NY. He was a member of the Union League Club in New York City. He was also a member of the Board of Governors of the Continental Can Company.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Adamson Benson, of Darien, Connecticut, his son, Andrew N. Benson of Purdys, NY and daughters, Nancy McKittrick of Darien, CT and Diane Cummings, of NYC. He is also survived by eight granddaughters and four great grandchildren.
