Michael A. Wood, of Darien, CT., passed away November 25, following a long illness.

Born July 29, 1949, in Stamford, he was predeceased by his parents, George A. Wood Jr. and Wanda V. Stamatel.

He is survived by his wife, Caron Bott; son, Christopher Wood (Marisa) of Fishkill, NY; daughter, Lauren Wood Gacik of Jupiter, FL, and brother Mark Wood (Joanne) of Fairfield, CT. He is also survived by two stepsons, Nicholas Anselmo of Norwalk, CT and Christopher Anselmo (Nicole) of San Diego, CA and three grandchildren, Jacob T. Wood, Dorothy Gacik and Charlotte Gacik.

Mike grew up in Stamford and graduated from Rippowam High School in 1967, then attended J.M. Wright Technical School. He served two tours from 1969-1970 in Vietnam in the US Army as a Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division, Dai Tieng. He was a decorated soldier and a Purple Heart recipient. After returning home, Mike worked as a police officer for 25 years with the City of Stamford.

Mike was a lifetime member of the Elks Club 899, a member of the VFW, Disabled Veterans Association and the American Legion in Norwalk. He was a master carpenter, and enjoyed cooking, gardening and working on his classic cars. Most important to Mike was being with his family and friends.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be private.
