Mary was born in New York on January 19, 1929, the eldest daughter of Mary (Mame) and Daniel Meskill, proud natives of Ireland. She attended Cathedral High School of Manhattan and CCNY. She spent her early career at Texaco and met her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert Sherman (Bob), at the Jug End Barn in Massachusetts. They spent their early family life in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and the New York area before they settled in Darien in the early 70s.
Mary is survived by her husband and Naval Officer, Bob, her children, Tom (May) of San Jose, CA, John (Alex) of Westlake Village, CA, Bob of Guilford, CT, Kara (Mark) Gregory of Darien, Barbara (Daniel) Weingold of Mount Vernon, VA, Mia (Charles) Cortellesi of Darien, and Joan (John) Carlo of Darien. She was a proud grandmother and most enjoyed the time she spent with her 20 grandchildren, Connor, Ryan, Megan, Matthew and Clare Gregory, Thomas and Sophia Cortellesi, Mary Cate, Grace, Caroline, and Jack Carlo of Darien; Sydney and Nicholas Mitchell, Sarah and Emily Mitchell, Dylan and Andrew Mitchell, and Shea, Eamon and Catherine Weingold.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel and William, her son William, and is survived by her brothers Bob, Jim, John, and Larry Meskill, and sister Joan Curis, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A loving mother of a large family, Mary was happiest surrounded by her children, stayed on top of current events, and was an avid reader. She was a great storyteller and loved to laugh. She was cherished and will be missed by all.
