Marilyn Mawson Dunleavy, also known as Nonie, of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away early Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2015, after her long battle with breast cancer.

Mrs. Dunleavy is survived by her husband Martin Dunleavy, daughter Kelly Ianniello of Suwanee, Georgia, daughter Casey Dunleavy of Glen Burnie, Maryland, son-in-law Dave Ianniello, and granddaughter, Hailey Ianniello. She was preceded in death by her daughter Shannon Dunleavy of Darien.

Mrs. Dunleavy was born on Nov. 11, 1946 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Edward and Olive Mawson. She graduated from Marywood University. She married Martin Dunleavy on August 1, 1970 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She worked as a second grade teacher at Smithtown School in Smithtown, New York, teacher’s aide at Tokeneke School in Darien, and secretary of Darien Board of Education.

Mrs. Dunleavy was a strong individual who refused to let cancer rule her life. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2004. The cancer returned in February 2013. Through all of the challenges she endured, she remained positive and dedicated to her work, friends, but most of all her family. Her words about her youngest daughter, Shannon Dunleavy who also endured a losing battle with cancer, is also true about herself. “She just guts it out and doesn’t complain.”

She will forever be remembered and loved as a supportive and loyal friend, mother, and wife, her family said.

There will be a private memorial service. It is the aspiration of her family to transport her ashes to Darien, so she can be reunited with her youngest daughter, Shannon.
